‘The Little Black Lake House’ – an off-grid Melwood

With a backdrop of rolling hills, and a sparkling lake hugging the rural landscape, this Melwood has to be one of our favourite off-grid retreats.

Rowena and Keith purchased a Porch Design No. 18, measuring 7.6 x 3.2m, featuring Cedar weatherboard cladding.

They personalised their design with Colorbond™️ Roofing in “Nightsky” and “Black” Aluminium Windows, achieving the awe-inspiring ‘Black on Black’ Scandi design aesthetic.

“Nothing was difficult. Everything was easy…It was very pain-free”

“We didn’t know we had fish in our dam. Keith caught some fish, which was a surprise to us. We suddenly thought wouldn’t it be nice to have something here projecting over the water.”

“It’s been the most pain-free building experience we’ve ever had, and we’ve done a lot of building and renovations in our lifetimes.”

Rowena & Keith have created such a relaxing ambience in their Little Black Lake House.

“Nothing was difficult. Everything was easy.

A cosy retreat where you can kick off your boots & go fishing without having to leave the front Porch.

“Our landscape is pretty wild. It blends in nicely.”

Just imagine drinking a glass of wine, whilst you watch the sunset over the lake through the large panoramic windows and the wood fire crackling in the background – what more could you want from this beautiful off-grid Melwood retreat.

“You have a nice project to do. It keeps you not dwelling on the grim circumstance of the world, and it helps you to lighten up.”

“I start a lot of projects, and I don’t tend to finish a lot of projects. So the best thing was we could go okay this is the design we want, and we’ll leave it up to you.”
