“It was the love of my life.”
“I can’t talk about it without having a cry.”
Parting with her beloved cabin was a tough decision for Genny.
“It was beautiful.”
“We’ve had some lovely homes, but there is nothing that will ever mean to me as much as that place.”
It’s been four years since she and her husband Steven sold their property, but the memory of the place is as strong as ever.
“So many people were involved and had some little piece of them there. That’s what made it special,” Genny explained.
“When my mum passed away, we inherited a little bit of money from her and what we had saved.”
“We had enough to buy a small block of land and then it all went from there.”
Genny had long dreamed of owning a country cabin, and she soon realised that dream.
“I saw in a magazine, Cedarspan’s™ ad of the cabin, the small one, and I said to Steven, that’s the one I want.”
“I had it posted on my fridge for years.”
The couple had drawn inspiration from their lives overseas.
“I had seen a cabin similar to that one so many times when we used to go skiing in America, and we thought one day we’d have a cabin like this.”
And one day, they did.
A Cedarspan™ 30C30 was a perfect choice for Genny and Steven’s country retreat.
“We didn’t want a big cabin. We wanted an intimate space that both of us could enjoy,” Steven said.
“We had a budget and they managed that whole thing.”
Genny and Steven created an idyllic weekend escape, which their dog, Scooter, equally loved.
“We wanted somewhere he could roam and enjoy himself and where I could put all my mum’s things and all my collectables from the U.S. and Canada where we had lived.”
From planning to building, Genny recalls the whole process.
“From the day that I saw it in the magazine to going there to Cedarspan™ to meet Doug and what a wonderful person he was. It was meant to be.”
She recounts how the installation of the cabin became a project for their family and the locals.
“Even the staining of the cabin, my sister and my niece helped with that.”
“This lovely old handyman in the town of Neville helped us lift the panels, and it was the windiest day!”
“He loved Scooter, so he made this funny rustic sign and hung it up. It was ‘Scooter’s Lodge.’”
In summing up, Genny says it best.
“It was one of the greatest achievements of our lives.”
“How much longer have you got, and I’ll keep talking!”
