No one understands the elements of a successful partnership as well as Phil Hayes-St Clair.
So, when he needed the right partner to bring his at-home podcast studio to life, it was Greenspan that he turned to.
The at-home podcast studio dream
As a strategic partnerships expert and educator, Phil Hayes-St Clair lives and breathes collaborative relationships. His business revolves around delivering award-winning keynote speeches, facilitating courses and workshops, providing consultation services, and hosting a weekly show, The Partnership+ Podcast.
When home renovations came onto the horizon, Phil saw an opportunity.
“We wanted a space dedicated to filming and recording my podcast,” he recalls. “The renovation plans didn’t allow for a space like this so we started looking at how we could add a space.”
He didn’t have to look far.
Phil explains the source of his inspiration.
“Friends and family had built cabanas in the past. They were happy with them so we looked into cabanas as an option that would create space and add value to our home.”
Greenspan and a cabana: The perfect partners
As someone who spends his days advising others on the art of strategic partnerships, Phil recognised the importance of finding the right collaborator for his podcast studio.
That’s where Greenspan immediately stood out.
“We didn’t shop around,” Phil says, “Great reputation, friendly and ready to deeply partner with us on the project.”
Our ethos of collaborative partnership aligned perfectly with Phil’s philosophy. Why would he need to look elsewhere?
He was also amazed at the incredible soundproofing that was immediately evident upon stepping into one of the buildings at our Strathfield Display Centre. The noise and traffic of busy Parramatta Road was instantly muted, and Phil knew that a timber cabana was the perfect environment for his much-desired at-home podcast studio.
A seamless collaboration from concept to creation
It was a seamless journey from there, with Phil’s Design Solutioneer proving to be the perfect partner with who to navigate the possibilities and challenges.
“He helped us understand the options, opportunities and constraints and ultimately designed a custom cabana that we love,” Phil tells us, “The process was excellent.”
The successful partnership extended throughout the project, right to the very end. “The delivery team was friendly and very focused on our satisfaction, and our installer was friendly, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with,” Phil adds.
Partners in perfection
It was a Melwood Mod that formed the foundation of his new space. With some unique needs to take into account, Phil was impressed at the available personalisation to ensure the size and look could be tailored to suit.
Measuring 2m x 5.4m, Phil’s chosen design was the perfect size for the very specific elevated spot he had allocated at the end of his garden. This unique position also meant he had no need for the deck that comes as standard with a Mod and so this was omitted from the design and costings.
The standard front double doors were changed to one single full glass pedestrian door fitted to the side end.
The facade now features the Mod’s signature highlight windows, as well as two full height double-hung windows to provide ample working light within.
It’s quite different to the usual Mod look…and we love it!
A sleek and modern at-home podcast studio
Phil upgraded two sides of cladding to pre-primed weatherboard which he painted black for a super sleek, modern look, fitting of his business and brand.
This, with Colorbond® roofing in “Night Sky” and black aluminium windows, provides a seamless, professional and super stylish black-on-black aesthetic.
The cool and contemporary vibe continues inside with two of the smooth and sleek vertical timber-clad walls also painted black; the other two, white.
Utilising premium cladding inside and out offers excellent soundproofing and helps to provide optimal acoustics for recording. The stylish monochrome aesthetic provides the ideal backdrop and mood for filming.
It’s the perfect at-home podcast studio.
Transformative for work and life
A couple of months on and Phil couldn’t be happier with his new at-home podcast studio and workspace.
“To be able to walk out the back and record podcasts and serve my clients, so close to home and in such comfort is unbelievable,” he states enthusiastically.
Having a dedicated space to run his business right outside his back door has also proven invaluable with home renovations now underway.
It’s a peaceful place in which to focus, record and film, and conduct virtual meetings away from the noise of building works. It also means Phil is on-site to project manage and immediately respond to queries or issues; factors that commonly delay a traditional building project.
Thanks to his Melwood Mod, Phil is never far away…and hopefully that means the conclusion of his renos isn’t either!
