5 ways a garden room can benefit your business

Whether it’s an office, storage space, a workroom/studio or a private space for meeting clients, there are endless ways that a garden room can benefit your business.

And – with the Australian Government’s Instant Asset Incentive; your new garden room could also reduce your tax bill!

Assets (up to the value of $150k) purchased for business use can now be claimed as a tax deduction, instantly reducing your tax payable.

The ATO website states: “businesses can immediately write off the cost of each asset that cost less than the threshold” Click here to read more on the ATO website, or speak to your accountant for more information.

Here are 5 ways a garden room can benefit your business (with images and case studies from Melwood Clients).

Home office

Starting with the most common business requirement  for all of us: the home office. Pretty much anyone working from home would be able to see the benefit of a home office – your own space where you can work, uninterrupted, and then close the door at the end of the day.

Business storage space

As most business owners would find, a growing business needs more and more space! Running a business from home often means that your business’ storage needs start to take over valuable space within the home. The solution to this is a garden room in the backyard that is used for business storage. This provides a secure, lockable space where you can store and organise your business supplies.

Jamie has two Melwood garden rooms for her home business: one for storage and one for a workshop.

Creative Workshop/Studio

When it comes to arts, crafts and skill-based businesses, there’s nothing like your own dedicated workshop to improve your work and your enjoyment whilst doing it!

Being able to leave everything set up, and come back the next day to pick up where you left off is a gamechanger, artists and creatives tell us.

Jenny uses her garden room as a pottery studio and to teach classes (prior to social distancing regulations). Her Garden Room is the Porch20 – measuring 6.3m x 3.2m.

Private Consulting Room

The ideal solution for anyone running a service-based business from home, a garden room provides a separate, private and professional space for you and your clients to meet. Lawyers, accountants, psychologists, physical therapists, and masseurs have all proved the benefits of moving their consulting rooms to a separate garden room on their property.

Video Conferencing/Recording Room

For those who run online-based businesses, or have had to transition online in recent weeks, a comfortable and quiet insulated garden room will definitely make things easier.

With the option to fit out your garden room however you like, (and add electricity, data cabling and more), you can transform the space into the perfect background for your videos or conferencing.

Melwood Garden Rooms are better insulated than most houses these days. With R1.5 insulation in the roof and sarking on all walls, you’ll be comfortable inside all year round!

This is a great option for tutors, music teachers, Personal Trainers and more who have recently had to transition to online classes.
