Nestled beneath the Yellow Rock escarpment, on the edge of Pokolbin State Forest in the Hunter Valley, NSW, sits Rocklee Grove – a picturesque 40-acre haven of unspoiled ancient bushland.
This secluded retreat is home to Tony and Deone, who welcome guests to ‘The Cabin’, a charming Cedarspan hideaway immersed in nature – perfect for those seeking a tranquil mountain escape.
The Cabin at Rocklee Grove
A new addition to the region’s accommodation scene, The Cabin at Rocklee Grove has already become a five-star favourite on Airbnb – and it’s easy to see why.
Celebrated for its hosts’ warm hospitality and the delicious complimentary produce from the property’s working olive grove, The Cabin is a peaceful retreat designed for ultimate relaxation. Yet, while it may feel a world away from everything, The Cabin at Rocklee is just minutes from Broke’s boutique wineries and gourmet dining.
Tucked among the trees, this charming Cedarspan cabin offers breathtaking views of Wollombi Valley which stretches out below with the Brokenback Range as its backdrop. Thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind, it features a cosy lounge and dining area, a queen-size bedroom, a modern bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchenette – perfect for preparing a meal with the estate’s own organic olives and honey.
Guests can unwind by the wood fireplace on cooler evenings or soak up the fresh country air from the spacious verandah. After an iconic sunset, the firepit beckons – offering the perfect spot to stargaze under the vast Hunter Valley sky.
The Cabin at Rocklee Grove truly delivers an unforgettable stay.
A dream come true
It’s a perfect escape for those looking to get away from it all, and it’s a dream finally come true for Tony and Deone.
The couple always had plans to develop their property into a destination of choice.
“Originally, we wanted to get onto the ‘glamping’ bandwagon,” Tony explains, “But we soon realised the roadblocks when it came to council compliance, maintenance, durability, hidden costs and overall comfort in the extremes of weather that we get out here”.
They needed to find an alternative accommodation solution – one that would withstand the region’s harsh and varied elements, meet the bushfire requirements of the area, and still offer guests a comfortable, cosy nature retreat.
“A modulated building seemed to be a logical next step of investigation for us,” says Tony.
A custom space for customer satisfaction
With customer satisfaction top of their priority list, Deone and Tony started researching the best prefabricated, modular building suppliers. It was a journey that led them to choose us.
“We investigated a number of options but decided on Greenspan due to range, quality and price,” Tony tells us, “It needed to be of the highest quality available to provide a quality guest experience and it needed to be unique in design”.
The couple were also venturing into the unknown, having never completed a project like this before.
As a third-generation family business, our nearly five decades of expertise helped guide Tony and Deone through the entire process – from design to delivery. Site visits established the best positioning for protection from the elements without compromising views. And, due to the high BAL rating, thorough customisation ensured the building met both bushfire safety requirements and the couple’s aesthetic wishes.
Designed for the country
The Cabin at Rocklee Grove is a thoughtfully designed 34m2 (approx.) Cedarspan 20C50 clad in vertical Weatherex Natural eco-hardwood matching the warm organic aesthetic of the surroundings. A custom Colorbond® roof in “Evening Haze” tops the building, complementing black aluminium windows and doors with classic colonial bars and thermal glass. Of course, no cabin in the country is complete without a verandah; this one boasts a spacious 1.9m deep hardwood deck with steps later added, leading to the must-have firepit below.
Inside, smartly placed partition walls create a queen-size bedroom and a bathroom, while the open-plan lounge, dining, and kitchen area serves as the central hub. A cosy wood burner creates an internal focal point, while double doors frame breathtaking views and open onto the verandah.
Throughout the cabin, timber-clad walls and ceilings have been painted in softly contrasting hues, accentuating the high-pitched cathedral ceiling. A sliding barn door encloses the bedroom, adding the final rustic touch that completes this inviting retreat.
