Previously, we covered Philip and Helene’s journey in adding a vibrant beach cottage to their property in Kioloa, 30 minutes south of Ulladulla on the south coast of NSW.
Their Cedarspan 30H60 Loft Cottage held plenty of happy family memories and despite being susceptible to storms, the seaside getaway proved to be solid.
Philip says, “Nothing broke. Nothing fell off. It withstood the storm. The structure is solid, and we can rely on it.”
A few years later in 2021, the couple sold their beach house, also known as the ‘Northwood Cottage by the sea’ being only 800 metres to Merry Beach.
The one-bedroom cottage with high loft ceilings, a slow combustion wood fire and ceiling fans to stay cool sat on a generous 706m² block of land with a north and south-facing aspect.
With doors and windows made of cedar and two verandah decks, the cottage was a family favourite for years.
“It’s always the Christmas holidays that are the favourite moments when the whole family is there.”
When the family wasn’t occupying it, Northwood Cottage was a popular Airbnb stay, making it an ideal asset for both family holidays and rental income.
The land was initially acquired in 2017 for $175,500 and sold in October 2021 for $790,000. Over time, the cabin helped lift the equity of the property when it was eventually time to sell.
With the cabin purchase, installation and fitout costing approximately $200K, the lucky couple saw a very healthy return on investment.
