Mel’s iconic white barn, a rural lifestyle dream

A photographer’s dream at the least, Mel’s Cedarspan barn has become quite a feature.

Catching the eye of passersby, it has also caught the interest of brand labels
as the ultimate photoshoot backdrop.

“We have people stopping in the street, looking at it and taking photos.”

Crowd stopping style

Mel wanted a barn to match in with the other buildings on her three-acre Hawkesbury property estate. The traditional aesthetic was an all-important choice factor for Mel, and the Board and Batten cladding with large timber barn doors was a perfect match. “We wanted a barn, and thankfully Cedarspan had the design we were after. They had the traditional style.” Mel explains.

Mel thinks that Board and Batten is making a comeback. It has been around for such a long time but is really on trend now with the increase in barn home styling.

Mel opted for our handcrafted timber barn doors across the front, finishing them off with contrasting black handles. “The barn doors attract people. It’s a huge feature,” says Mel.

A high-profile backdrop

Now a significant part of the beautiful Belle Heath Estate, Mel’s Cedarspan makes for the perfect background for many a couple’s special day. In addition to events, Mel also hires out her property for product photoshoots, making for a multi-purpose space. Whilst the main purpose of the barn was to house her husband’s race cars, the return on investment has increased dramatically with the weekly photoshoots. “Every week, I have a photoshoot…Oz Design, Flower Power, Pet Barn, and Married at First Sight have filmed here,” Mel tells us.

Enough space for Matt’s cars too!

Mel chose the Cedarspan Cathedral Loft Barn 30CHL60, measuring 5.6m x 10.8m with our 3m wall height and cathedral pitch ceiling.

She personalised the space with Board and Batten cladding, additional barn doors, aluminium windows in “White”and “Woodland Grey” Colorbond® roofing.

“My husband races cars. We needed something that could be multi-purpose, a larger three-car garage,” Mel explains.

Coming in at just over 60sqm, with an approx. 19 sqm storage loft, there is space, as planned, for three of Matt’s cars. And it’s the ultimate hobby space. “It’s man heaven…He adores that space. He loves it,” Mel tells us.

For Matt and Mel, their Cedarspan was just the beginning of their rural lifestyle dream. “It did start us off on a beautiful path of designing the rest of the three acres,” Mel tells us.
